Desert Ant Labs is building something different from the usual AI playbook: 12 tiny, specialized models that run entirely on-device, no cloud, no API keys, and no per-call cost. In this video we install and test every single one, from a speech recognition model that transcribes 10 minutes of audio in 2 seconds, to a PII redaction model, to one that claims 470x less energy than calling Claude Sonnet for the same task. Some of these held up impressively, others fell apart under real-world testing, and we break down exactly which is which.
